About Ragnys Rum — A True St. Lucian Craft Distillery
Your tour takes place at Ragnys Rum, one of St. Lucia’s most celebrated local distilleries. Ragnys is known for its small-batch approach and dedication to authentic Caribbean rum production — from open fermentation vats to traditional copper pot stills to hand-numbered aged barrels.
Unlike industrial producers, Ragnys makes rum that tells the story of its land. Each bottle reflects St. Lucia’s volcanic soil, tropical climate, and the centuries-old traditions of Caribbean distilling. This isn’t a tourist attraction — it’s a living, working distillery where the magic happens every single day.
What Rums Will I Taste? A Guide to the Tasting Flight
White Rum (Unaged / Silver): Clean, crisp, and lightly sweet — the pure expression of St. Lucian sugarcane. The base of most classic Caribbean cocktails.
Spiced Rum: Infused with local spices including cinnamon, nutmeg, and tropical botanicals. Bold, warming, and unmistakably Caribbean.
Fruit-Infused Rum: St. Lucia’s tropical fruits — mango, passion fruit, and guava — find their way into these playful, vibrant expressions. Perfect for those new to rum tasting.
Aged Rum (Dark / Reserve): The crown jewel. Barrel-aged for years in the Caribbean heat, these rums develop deep notes of vanilla, caramel, and oak. Sip slowly — these are meant to be savoured.
You’ll also have the opportunity to purchase bottles exclusive to the distillery that aren’t available in shops — perfect souvenirs to take home.
From Sugarcane to Bottle — How St. Lucian Rum Is Made
Your tour guide will walk you through every stage of the rum-making process:
Harvesting & Crushing: St. Lucian sugarcane is harvested and crushed to extract fresh juice, which is then fermented using natural yeasts for 3–5 days.
Fermentation: The fermented wash develops its flavour profile in open vats — you’ll see (and smell!) this process up close.
Distillation: The wash is distilled in copper pot stills or column stills to produce raw spirit. The “cut” — deciding which portion of the distillate to keep — is where the master distiller’s skill is most visible.
Ageing: Selected spirits are filled into charred oak barrels and left to mature in the Caribbean heat. The warm climate accelerates ageing — a year in St. Lucia is worth several years in cooler climates.
Blending & Bottling: The final step — where art meets science. The master blender creates consistent, signature expressions from individual barrels.
